A federal judge says the Narragansett Indian Tribe can move forward with a lawsuit against the federal government in a case stemming from a failed land deal with the state. The recent decision is the latest development in a years-long battle between the tribe, state and federal government over properties that were promised to the Narragansett. They were supposed to be compensated for expected damage to a significant tribal site as a result of highway construction in Providence.

India to participate in Saudi Arabia summit on finding ways to start Ukraine war negotiations
An Indian official says New Delhi will participate in a weekend meeting that Saudi Arabia is hosting to find a way to start negotiations to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. A spokesman for India’s External Affairs Ministry said Thursday that Saudi Arabia invited India to the two-day meeting in Jeddah and its “participation is in consonance with our long-standing position that dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward.” The spokesman didn’t reveal who would represent the country at the summit. The head of Ukraine’s presidential office confirmed Sunday that a Ukrainian-organized peace summit would take place in Saudi Arabia.
New Cannabis Control Commission chair on the future of recreational marijuana in Rhode Island
Over a year after recreational marijuana was legalized in Rhode Island, three people have finally been appointed to the state’s newly formed Cannabis Control Commission, which is responsible for overseeing the regulation, licensing and control of adult use and medical cannabis in the Ocean State. In July the commission began holding listening sessions for members of the public to share what they want to see in rules and regulations around marijuana.
