In Westerly, town officials are facing a salt shortage. With all the recent snow storms, supplies have dwindled.  Additionally, the town did not receive an expected delivery of salt last week.

Westerly’s Emergency Management Director Amy Grzybowski said crews dropped more sand than usual to get through the storm Monday.  “We have just enough to get through the storm, it doesn’t mean anything differently,” said Grzybowski. “But in general we always like to keep constant application of salt when necessary, but we have to be a little more frugal right now.”

Grzybowski said the salt shortage appears to be a supply and demand issue at the salt company. The town is working with state officials to figure out what went wrong.
