Tuition is set to increase at Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island. The State Council on Post-secondary Education voted on the changes, which take effect fall 2018.

Tuition at URI will go up two percent for in-state undergrads, adding an extra $250 for the year. There will also be a $100 increase in the technology fee for all students.

According to the university, the price hikes will result in $2 million dollars of new revenue. University officials said they plan to use that money to increase financial aid among other things.

Rhode Island college will also have a two percent increase in tuition for all students. That will result in about $800,000 of new revenue annually. RIC said it plans to use the money to hire more full-time faculty.
