Rhode Island State Police warned drivers to be careful this Labor Day, following three motor vehicle crash fatalities so far this weekend.

Labor Day weekend has a reputation for dangerous driving, said Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, State Police Superintendent and Department of Public Safety Director. She asked drivers to be careful and vigilant while driving.

“We strongly encourage motorists to use extra caution and to report anyone who may be driving in an unsafe or dangerous manner,” Assumpico said in a statement. “We need to take care of each other and prevent further loss of life this weekend and in the future.”

Additional troopers have been assigned to patrol throughout the weekend. They’re on the lookout for speeding, hand-held cell phone use, and drunk driving.
