This year, DEM representatives will be leading a 2.5 mile hike and guided tour around Olney Pond in Lincoln Woods to ring in the new year.
DEM Director Janet Coit called the hike a great way to learn more about the state’s outdoor resources.
“Rhode Island has an amazing selection of historic parks and recreation areas where residents and visitors throughout the state can connect with nature and get active,” Coit said.
Similar hikes and guided tours take place in all 50 states as part of the First Day Hike program, led by the National Association of State Park Directors. According to that association, almost 55,000 people who hiked over 133,000 miles across the country. Among them: 55 people walked through Beavertail State Park in Rhode Island.
DEM says coffee and hot chocolate will be provided for the 1:00 pm tour. Strollers and pets on leashes are welcome.
