At least 250 people turned out for a congressional town hall meeting at Coventry High School Sunday, hosted by three-fourths of Rhode Island’s Democratic congressional delegation- Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and 2nd District Representative Jim Langevin.

Back in November, Coventry gave 53 percent of its vote to Republican Donald Trump for President, but none of those voters appeared to be in the crowd, which at times was boisterously anti-Trump.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse was critical of President Trump tackling tax reform.

“We can’t do tax reform without his tax returns,” said Whitehouse.

Exeter resident Scott Molloy revised a popular Trump campaign chant, turning it back on its originator.

“Lock him up, lock him up,” shouted Molloy to applause from the crowd.

Molloy expressed concern about allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives during the election season. All three elected officials said they approved of the idea of a special prosecutor to investigate those allegations.

Others in the crowd spoke against the failed GOP attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, and urged the congressmen to advocate for the so-called single payer option for health care in the U.S.
