Selected for the honor are Jim Rice, Wade Boggs, and Ben Mondor. Pawsox general manager Dan Rea, said Jim Rice and Wade Boggs were among the team’s most successful players.

“Wade Boggs and Jim Rice really stood out as two guys who, on the field, had tremendous careers here while they were in Pawtucket, but then went on to have great careers with the Red Sox, at major league baseball,” said Rea. “The fact that both are members of the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame was also a significant factor.”

Ben Mondor was the team owner for decades. Rea said Mondor was responsible for turning the team around in the midst of bankruptcy in the late 1970s.

“Ben Mondor, you know he was Mr. PawSox,” said Rea. “He helped save the franchise, he led the franchise for decades, um and is really synonymous to this day, even after his passing, with all the good work that has been done here over the years.”

Mondor died in 2010 at the age of 85. A new ownership group bought the Pawsox in 2015 and attempted to move the team to Providence.
