National Grid requested proposals back in September.

The bids are a variety of clean energy projects, including solar, onshore and offshore wind.

Carol Grant, commissioner of Rhode Island’s Office of Energy Resources, said the request for proposals could bring more renewable energy to the state and could benefit electricity customers, including lower-income residents.

“By putting in place a very competitive process, we really hope that we will get the most cost effective clean energy that’s available in the market,” she said.

How much customers could be expected to save will be made public after the proposals are evaluated in the coming months.

The selected bids will contribute to Governor Gina Raimondo’s stated goal to increase Rhode Island’s clean energy supply ten-fold by 2020.
