  • 9:05 p.m.: In his victory speech, Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan says he runs a “blue collar administration” whose main priorities are streets, schools, sidewalks, and snowplowing. He says the big project for his third term in office is improving the HQ of the city’s public works department.
  • 8:55 p.m.: Standing in the kitchen of the Narragansett Cafe in Jamestown, Republican Gerry Leonard calls Democrat Gabe Amo to congratulate him on winning the CD1 race.
  • 8:45 p.m.: BREAKING: Democrat Jacob Bissaillon has won the race for Rhode Island’s State Senate District 1, the Associated Press reports.
  • 8:31 p.m.: Gabe Amo speaks to supporters after winning the CD1 race: “The work that we do starts tonight.”
  • 8:29 p.m.: BREAKING: Incumbent Paul Coogan declares victory in his reelection race for Fall River mayor.
  • 8:19 p.m.: Fall River Mayor Coogan’s chief of staff Ann O’Neil says she’s seen enough: she’s confident Coogan’s already won, just 16 minutes after polls closed. “It’s a wrap,” O’Neil said.
  • 8:15 p.m.: Rhode Island Democratic Chair Joe McNamara welcomes the crowd at the campaign party for Gabe Amo at The Guild in Pawtucket.
  • 8:14 p.m.: In Fall River, Paul Coogan supporters are beginning to fill out Our Lady of Light Band Hall, but the mayor hasn’t arrived yet. State Reps. Alan Silvia and Paul Schmid are talking to State Sen. Michael Rodrigues, chairman of the Senate’s powerful Ways and Means Committee, in the main event hall. Coogan’s chief of staff, Ann O’Neil, will be tallying precinct-level results on a poster board in the band practice room in another wing of the hall. O’Neil said she expects results by 8:45 p.m. or 9 p.m. She said the Coogan campaign has a volunteer in every precinct.
  • 8:10 p.m.: BREAKING: The Associated Press reports that Democrat Gabe Amo has won special election to U.S. House in Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District. He becomes the first person of color elected to Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation.
  • 8:00 p.m.: Polls are closed.
  • 7:55 p.m.: Gerry Leonard arrives at his campaign headquarters at the Narragansett Cafe in Jamestown, where a band is playing for the mix of locals in baseball hats and Leonard supporters dressed to the nines.
  • In southeastern Massachusetts, we’re watching the Fall River mayoral race, between incumbent Mayor Paul Coogan, who is seeking re-election after four years, and challenger Sam Sutter, a former mayor who lost the office in 2015 to a young Jasiel Correia. Sutter also served for seven years as the Bristol County District Attorney, the region’s top criminal prosecutor. There are also city council races in Fall River and New Bedford.   • Also on the ballot in Rhode Island: a state senate race, and votes in several municipalities on questions about how to spend millions of dollars in construction bonds. Click here for a more details.
  • In Rhode Island, the most closely watched race is between Democrat Gabe Amo and Republican Gerry Leonard, vying to represent the state’s 1st Congressional District. In the heavily Democratic state, Leonard, a marine veteran, has a steep hill to climb against Amo, a Pawtucket native who’s worked under two presidents.
