New parents get involved in Family Court for different reasons – but usually because the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, or DCYF, believes their newborn is at risk. 

DCYF takes the baby away and places it in foster care. Then parents have to wait months for court dates, social worker visits and much more. 

On this week’s The Pulse, we hear from Family Court Judge Lia Stuhlsatz about a new option to speed up the process and give parents a little more support: baby court. Stuhlsatz begins by explaining what kinds of families might be referred to the new court.
