Cranston Mayor Allan Fung’s gubernatorial campaign is moving from its controversial office location at Chapel View in Cranston to a different space in Warwick.

The Carpionato Group, which owns Chapel View and pursues development throughout New England, has received attention for providing office space to Fung and Cranston Democrats without collecting rent. The stories were first reported by WPRI-TV.

Fung campaign spokesman Andrew Augustus said the campaign’s ongoing move to another Carpionato property in Warwick is unrelated to the stories and state Elections Board complaints involving the Carpionato Group.

“It’s always been our plan to move into a little bit of a bigger spot,” Augustus said. After initially declining to specify when the campaign began considering a move, Augustus said the change has been planned for months.

Fung’s campaign has used the office space at Chapel View through the last three election cycles. The mayor has often pointed to the shopping-office complex as a sign of Cranston’s economic vitality. He used the Chapel View location to announce last year his latest run for governor.

The Fung campaign expects to be out of Chapel View by July 1. The new location is at 615 Greenwich Avenue, Suite 15, in Warwick, across from the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The state Board of Elections is considering a series of complaints involving office space provided to politicians by the Carpionato Group.
